Log Cabin holiday in the Cotswolds

What a fantastic few days I had at Log House Holidays in the Cotswolds a few days ago.  I was invited at the very last moment to join my daughter Katie, and my son in law, Ben, on a staycation.  This was my first time I had been included in any of their blogging activities and you can imagine I was extremely excited.  Especially when they told me to bring my swimming cossie as there was a hot tub.  Luxury.

They met me at the old fashioned station of Kemble after I’d taken four trains.  But despite all the weather conditions not one of my trains was delayed either at arrival or departure.  There were plenty of taxis available for those who would be taking the rail network.  Log House Holidays are only 3 miles away taking approximately 9 minutes.

This was the incredible log house Moondara where the three of us stayed.  The log cabin sleeps 8 people and is perfect for all ages, young and old,  disabled and fit.  The benefit is that there is disabled access, a downstairs double bedroom for those unable to negotiate the stairs and a massive bathroom with bath and shower.  No one is left out.  All three other double rooms are upstairs.  The master bedroom overlooks the lake and a balcony over the dining room with ensuite facilities.  All rooms are elegant and furnished in antiques.  The sitting room is so comfortable and there is a TV, just in case you need it.  Also a log fire which we did use as it was quite chilly outside.

The kitchen is superbly equipped with all cooking necessities there.   If you want to bake cakes or whiz juices you may need to bring the machines, but it’s worth asking Anthony, James or Charlotte who own and run this incredible location.  Anthony started constructing the area in 1980 from old gravel pits.  The lake is fed by a spring, so clean and you can see the bottom.   It is sympethically restored.  There are 8 log cabin houses in total around the lake.  You can see the other houses from afar but are in no way on top of each other.  Locations are subtle, peaceful and private.

Did I mention the hot tub?  We did spend quite a few hours in here.  The weather was chilly but the water was heavenly!  We loved it here, so much so that we didn’t want to leave the house. We literally stayed in the environs for 48 hours.  Ben did a shop locally while Katie and I sat for a number of hours in the hot tub sipping champagne!!  What  a way to unwind and this is in the middle of winter.  Imagine what it is like in the summer.

Why I say, just in case for the TV, is because you can sit at the dining room table and just watch the world go by with views from the house.   Nature’s TV.  So many different birds to see,  Ideal for all bird watchers.  There are binoculars on the wall.  James did say there were some otters.  I think we heard them and may have seen them in the distance, but was that us wishing we could see them?

The walk round the lake was great fun.  A play area for children/grown up children and beaches, swing seats in strategic locations. Mushrooms, different trees, bull rushes, birds galore. Absolutely beautiful.

Oh I forgot to say that it is dog friendly.  There was a boat trip, toasting marshmallows on the fire on the island.  I’m sure I’ve forgotten something but at no time was I bored or at a loose end.

We had two spectacular sun rises.

Thank you to Anthony, James and Charlotte of Log House Holidays, to Katie and Ben for letting me join them and Vic for the little break.  You need to book up quickly as the dates are going fast.
