Once Upon a Time on Zillow…
It began as most fixer uppers usually begin… with Zillow. About 6 months before we were married, Lucas bought a home in a subdivision near a lake. It was a fairly quiet and peaceful corner of the world. However, Lucas and I had been casually looking and sending homes to each other since our first year of marriage. We kept talking about moving to acreage, but the timing and logistics never lined up.
In August of 2023, Lucas felt like he heard the Lord saying we would be packing our bags and moving in 15 months. Life went on, we had a second baby and the word Lucas felt like he heard went to the back of our minds. In August 2024, I found the BEST deal on a barndominium. It was only 2 years old, 5 acres and for the low price of $324k (that is excellent for our area). I immediately sent it to Lucas who contacted a realtor about going to see it. As most well-priced homes go, the barndominium already had 5 offers on it before we could even go see it. However, this inspired us to start seriously considering moving.
We began looking at different properties and I started to despair that we would find a home in our budget with more than 2 acres. We had a specific area we were looking in due to Lucas’ work, a specific budget, and we didn’t want any kind of manufactured home. That was when I saw IT. A home that was on 15+ acres, with a basement, and the description said it only needed aesthetic/reno work. We saw it as soon as our realtor was available. To make a long story short, the home needed much more work than it seemed but after being blessed with a significant discount, we decided to buy the home.
